Mission of the Computer and Electronics Program

Blue Ridge Community College operates within the Virginia Community College System to anticipate and respond to the educational needs of the Central Shenandoah Valley, ensuring that all individuals have life-long opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, and values. The College offers programs and courses of instruction through the associate degree level. The Computer & Electronics Program supports this mission by

  • Dedicating itself to providing Computer & Electronics students with a set of skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will permit all of its graduates to succeed and thrive in their professional careers, in subsequent educational challenges and in society.
  • Providing professional development courses as necessary to respond to the needs of service area technicians, teachers and engineers.
  • Preparing the student for a wide range of career opportunities such as Electronics Technician, Industrial Electronics Technician, Instrumentation Technician, Consumer Product Repair, Communications Technician, Computer Network Technician, or Technical Sales.
  • Ensuring special educational opportunities exist for students in the Computer & Electronics Program such as day, evening, focus day, On-Line Web course work, scholarships, and employment opportunities for both first year and second year students. Many BRCC Electronics Technology Program graduates continue on to Old Dominion University for their Junior and Senior level courses in pursuit of a Bachelor Of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology. The ODU courses can be taken on campus at BRCC via satellite (TELETECHNET).
  • Providing internship opportunities with local business and industry to supplement the academic classroom and laboratory experiences.
  • Actively supporting the Blue Ridge Tech Prep Consortium to enhance the career development opportunities for the young people in our community.
