    BRCC'S "NEW LOOK"

Beginning in the fall semester of 2006, BRCC now schedules classes on  Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday (75 minutes) or on Fridays (two hours and 45 minutes).  HS internships will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

and a curriculum change for Human Services:

MEN 101, the traditional first semester course in Skill Training, will be moving to second semester next year.  The material in this course supports the skills employed in internships and should be more relevant when it coincides with the first internship experiences.

                                                                                           ************

EMPLOYMENT: For graduates who can relocate (or even commute), there are numerous jobs in Charlottesville, where several of our former students are working, particularly at Region 10, which is the Community Services Board for that area.  Also advertised are positions in other nearby areas of Virginia, including Culpeper, where the associates degree is specified. Check the newspaper advertisements on the Internet.

The local Community Services Boards have advertised positions for which our graduates are qualified and one of the May grads has accepted a CSB job where she has been doing an internship.  Another grad will be working at her internship, the CSB in Lexington, our first internship there and our first graduate to be employed there.  Pleasant View has periodic openings.  We have more graduates than in the past who are with the H-R CSB,  where they began with part-time positions.

Mrs. Zeiss can fill you in on employment opportunities as several new agencies have arrived in our area.  Debbie Brown '07  found excellent employment in one of these.

Need a referencePlease give yourself (and the faculty) adequate time for responses to reference requests.

RESOURCE GUIDE:  Look under Library in the BRCC Website,  find Reference Guides, and you can enter a site under Instructor Guides,  titled Grey--Mental Health/Humans Services Resources.  It provides students and others with key websites to locate information in the general area of MH/HS and includes tips on writing and documenting papers

INTERESTING TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY:  The University of Virginia offers a degree for adults who cannot attend as traditional students.  Theo Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) is geared for students who have completed two years of college.  UVA also has just announced a automatic transfer from the Community College but this will require a 3.4 average and 54 transferable credits, including twelve credits in science or math and competency in a foreign language. However, THE FINANCIAL AID CAN BE SUPER:  UVA is offering grants (not loans) for people who qualify for financial assistance with funds that come from the University's endowment.  This is a terrific opportunity to get a four-year degree and come out without loans that must be paid back.  Look into it!

STAYING IN TOUCH:

When you stop by the College, we may be hard to locate but we appreciate the notes that  you leave.

Please add an address or e-mail site so that we may get back to  you.  Thanks!
