New Announcements:

December 17, 2002 - Your final grades have been posted. If you have any questions you must bring them to my attention immediately!!!  grade page

December 10, 2002 - This just in... the learning lab will be closed from 10 AM - 12 PM on Friday!!!

December 1, 2002 - Your grades have been update and posted. Go to your grade page and follow the instructions. You'll notice three things:

  • I haven't added the extra credit to the mulchers yet (not everyone is done)
  • I've dropped the TWO lowest investigation quizzes.
  • The quiz "hemoglobin" is just listed. Nobody has nothing for that one (it doesn't count for or against you).

November 27, 2002 - Final exam information (on your schedule) has been updated. Click on the Final Exam link (on your schedule) to learn more. After you complete your current exam (midnight) I will begin calculating your current grade. I'll have this posted by Monday.

November 25, 2002 - The end of course evaluation is available for you to complete on BlackBoard. Of course it doesn't count for a grade. I will know if you have completed it - but I won't know who said what. Please complete at your earliest convenience. I will read everything (including the comments). My boss reads them too! Please let me know what you think :-)

November 18, 2002 - Your test (Molecular Genetics) is now on BlackBoard. 34 questions in 55 minutes. See your schedule and click on the test for more information.

November 2, 2002 - Whoops. I understand I left a blank question in your recent test/quiz. My fault! I will throw that question out. It won't count against you. For all of those that e-mailed me about this I thank you :-)

October 29, 2002 - Your schedule is updated with links to pages providing more information about your next test and quiz (both active on BlackBoard). Just click on the test/quiz links on your schedule for more infomation.

October 24, 2002 - I will be out of the office on Friday (October 25, 2002). I should be able to return e-mails and postings (on BlackBoard) by Friday night or early Saturday.

October 19, 2002 - Midterms have been graded and your updated interims are on-line. Click on this link (grade) to learn how to access your interim.

September 27, 2002 - I will be out of town for the next 6 days. I will attempt to respond to e-mails and our BlackBoard discussion board, but know that I'm at the mercy of hotel connections, laptop modems, foreign servers, and other nebulous connections.

August 30, 2002 - Your first deadline! You have until midnight to take your first quiz (Science and the Scientific Method).  Waiting this long to take your quiz means you're flirting with disaster. Are you always assuming that technology will work? If you knew of all the connections, wires, relays, and general mayhem behind the Internet in our area you would be as shocked as I am that the whole even works! Quit slacking and take that quiz!!!

August 28, 2002 - Just a few announcements:

  • Check your schedule and make sure you're on track. Get yourself over to BlackBoard with time to spare  to take your test.
  • Here are some useful link concerning BlackBoard

    The BlackBoard URL - http://bb.vccs.edu

Here's a link to our Cyberlearning web page - http://www1.brcc.edu/cyber/

If you suspect that there may be problems with BlackBoard you can check for outages at the VCCS Utility Homepage. Click on "outages" (from the bottom menu) and then click on "Service Interruptions" for the latest announcement from the Virginia Community College System.

Still looking form your log in name? Go to  http://whoami.vccs.edu  and follow the menus.

For more answers to BlackBoard related questions (that can be answered closer to home) call the friendly folks at the BRCC Computer lab at - 234-9261 ext. 2219

August 23, 2002 - Still having a problem getting on BlackBoard? Apparently a server in Richmond responsible for helping you find your username went on the fritz. Here's the text of an e-mail from someone in our computer lab. These URLs work:

  • Sorry this took me a while I had a few interruptions. The Blackboard username is the same as the first part of the student's E-mail address. The students may find their address using the following link. http://helpnet.utility.vccs.edu/csc/email/searchallstudents.asp.

If this is too long they can go to http://helpnet.utility.vccs.edu and follow the menus. They can use this to find other student's email addresses also. The password is their birthdate in the format MMDDYY.
IF they have anymore questions have them call the Computer lab at - 234-9261 ext. 2219
    Hope this helps you out.
    Mary Jane Beebe

August 22, 2002 - I should warn you that I teach on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM - 5:50 PM (pretty much non-stop). So I may a bit slow to respond to the discussion board and e-mail on Tuesday and Thursday during the day.

August 21, 2002 - Hi gals and guys!  Two messages this morning:

  • The BlackBoard server in Richmond is... uhm... er... it is... well, screwed-up to put it mildly. I'm the kind of guy that likes for things to work the way they're suppose to work - so I'm pretty ticked-off at the moment. I'll spare you all of the apologetic e-mails coming from their webmaster and just encourage you to repeatedly attempt to log onto your BlackBoard account. The instructions can be found at our  CyberLearning web page. For the record, let it be known that our server and BlackBoard webmistress (Sue Ann Curran) work just fine :-) The problem is with Richmond.
  • Take some time to explore my web page and pay particular attention to your schedule. This is where you will find links to notes and information about upcoming tests and quizzes (i.e. dates). All of these tests and quizzes will be available for your enjoyment on BlackBoard. I think it's very important to get over there (BlackBoard) as soon as you can and take my Practice Quiz and to log onto the discussion board (Ask Mr. Murray) and say howdy so I know you're in the course. Please do those two things for me (Practice Quiz and Ask Mr. Murray) as soon as possible... er, uh... as soon as you can log onto the &*$%#@! BlackBoard.

August 15, 2002 - If you have done so, PLEASE attend one of the Cybercollege orientations. To learn more about the available dates visit our CyberLearning web page.

August 14, 2002 - Those of you attending the cybercollege/BlackBoard orientation will have the opportunity to pick up my welcome letter. If you don't I'll mail it to you. Here's a copy of it.

August 14, 2002 - Welcome! I'm still working on the course for the fall. Check out the schedule and FAQ page. Return for more information in a week or so.
