New Announcements:

August 4, 2004 (second semester) - Well. That's it! Your final grades our posted on your grade page.

July 27, 2004 (second semester) - Two announcements:

  • I'm out of the office Wednesday.
  • You may begin turning in your Sherando and Behavior reports in two folders placed on my door (J111).

July 26, 2004 (second semester) - Grades were looking very good... I didn't think you guys would be requesting extra credit. But, here it is if you're interested - EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY  Please read everything and then e-mail me your intent. Betty will be left out (Boris doesn't do rain).

July 23, 2004 (second semester) - Your interim grades have been posted. Click on the GRADE page and follow the instructions to find your grade page. Please note: I have not dropped your lowest investigation quiz or test grade at this time.

July 20, 2004 (second semester) - Received a couple of e-mails requesting more information about the Sherando assignment... you can find all the information by clicking on the assignment on your schedule. If you haven't done so, go to your schedule and print/read everything provided on the Sherando Field Study page(s). (Look for the bright yellow squares)

July 19, 2004 (second semester) - A few announcements come to mind...

  • just wondering how you are doing on your independent assignments. Post some questions on our discussion board if you are unsure about anything.
  • I'm doing some volunteer work in Staunton for the next few mornings/early afternoons. Will be on and off campus for the week. If you need to see me, please e-mail requesting an appointment... or post that question on BlackBoard.
  • Just got off the phone with Kelly Sims (he's the supervisor in charge of Sherando Recreation Area). It's official! You do not have to pay to enter the park to perform your field investigation. Just remind the nice person at the gate to see the letter Kelly posted in the guardhouse. You also have something at the top of your worksheet notifying the nice person at the guardhouse that you do not have to pay.

July 14, 2004 (second semester) - Two announcements today:

  • Your exams are on their way to the learning resource center (in the library). Click on the midterm link to see when you may come to campus to take your exam.
  • The purpose of the tree identification assignment is to learn how to identify trees using a dichotomous key. After you've been to campus and did your best at completing the activity, send me your list (trees matched up with the list of silly names) and I'll let you know if you got it correct! That way you'll go into the quiz and score 100%.

July 12, 2004 (second semester) - Two announcements today:

  • Midterm Exam! Go click on the midterm exam link on your schedule for dates of availability and a description of what is on the exam.
  • I just updated your tree identification assignment. Go to your schedule and click on the link to see what I have designed for you! You'll want to print out the dichotomous key and budget some time to come to campus to

July 8, 2004 (second semester) - We've got some serious procrastination going on here! Only 50% of y'all have taken Test #1 and the Fly/Pedigree quiz as of noon today. The deadline is midnight tomorrow. I'm working on your tree identification activity. Check back early next week to see which trees have been assigned to you.

June 29, 2004 (second semester) - Welcome second semester cyberbiology students! Please explore this website, especially the syllabus, schedule, and FAQ page. Head on over to BlackBoard and take my practice quiz to demonstrate to both of us that you are able to do so (don't worry, it doesn't count for a grade). I'll be out of town until Thursday evening. But don't wait for me... get started ASAP.

June 29, 2004 (first semester) - Well... that's all folks! I've posted your final grades on your grade page. I enjoyed. And, I'll see some of you next semester (i.e. Thursday). Please note... I'll be out of town Wednesday (all day) and Thursday (morning - afternoon).

June 25, 2004 - Couple of announcements:

  • Final Exam!!!!  Click on that link at the bottom of the schedule page for details.
  • I've updated your grade sheet (to include Test #4). If you performed extra credit, I'll add it to your last test grade and post it when I post your final grade (Tuesday???)
  • Matt, Laura, & Jonathan... don't forget to complete the end-of-course evaluation (on BlackBoard).

June 23, 2004 - I updated your interims. Go to the grade page (see link under June 12 announcement below). I'll try and update your grades one more time on Friday after I have graded Test #4. I'll have your final grade posted hopefully by June 29. Don't procrastinate. Get to campus and take that final!

June 18, 2004 - Thanks to everyone that has e-mailed to tell me about the "ghost" question on your last test. I'm looking into why that question went blank. It won't influence your grade (I'll drop that from the point total).

June 15, 2004 - Now that the interims are posted... folks have been asking about extra credit opportunities. One option does exist. To learn more and to sign up follow the extra credit link.

June 12, 2004 - As promised, your updated interims can be found on the grade page.

June 8, 2004 - Will be out of the office tomorrow (attending a meeting out of town; 8-4 PM in C-ville & 6-10 PM in Waynesboro). Will be able to respond to e-mails and BlackBoard discussion board very early Thursday morning.

June 7, 2004 - Well... it's all about gearing up for cybersaturday (June 12, 8 AM in room J105). To be prepared, click on over to the schedule page and click on the cybersaturday link. Carefully read everything. There are a number of documents, worksheets, and assignments waiting for you.

May 31, 2004 - Four announcements:

  • How are things going? I just checked the "Becoming Human" website and it seems to be up and running fine. I think college students from across the US were attempting to access the page at the same time and crashed the server. If you still need to complete it, get aggressive and try it again. You should probably try other computers. Some computers return to the last attempt and flash up the same old tired message without attempting to go to the site. If you don't know how to clear your history, try another computer.
  • Is there a Lorri Robertson out there? I have you enrolled in the course but no listed on BlackBoard. Please contact me immediately. Are you going by a different name?
  • Have you performed your Enzyme lab? Crack open that on-line lab manual you purchased from the bookstore and get cracking! After you have answered the assigned questions and understanding trends in your graphs, study your notes, put them away and take the quiz on BlackBoard. 10 questions in 15 minutes. Deadline June 4.
  • I'm heading to Athens (GA) later this week. Please get those questions into me prior to Wednesday morning. I may not be able to respond electronically until Friday afternoon (after 4 PM). IF I'm in a computer lab on their campus, and IF the machines are hooked-up to the Internet, and WHEN the instructor is not looking, I may be able to respond to e-mails and BlackBoard postings Thursday afternoon.

May 27, 2004 - I'm aware that some of you are having problems with accessing the "Becoming Human" website. I've extended the quiz deadline to June 4. I'll be back in the office Friday and investigate what has happened (note: the becoming human website is managed by someone else... not me). I have a similar response posted on BlackBoard.

May 25, 2004 - Great! Ten of y'all have already taken the practice quiz. That still means 14 of you need to do so ASAP. And if you haven't done so, please post your Howdy on our discussion board. Don't make me start naming names ;-)

May 24, 2004 - I'm back in the commander's chair. I have just made a practice quiz available for your pleasure. Go to BlackBoard and take the practice quiz (also, say Howdy to everyone on the discussion board, if you haven't already done so). PLEASE take the practice quiz within the next few days so we can flush out any problems. Unlike other tests on BlackBoard, you may take this one over and over and over and over... in case you wanted to see the pithy comments I made for correct and incorrect responses. Tomorrow, I'll post the first three quizzes (see your schedule for the dates of availability). Don't click on tests and quizzes on BlackBoard unless you're serious about taking them.

May 24, 2004 - Well.... here we go! I'll be out of the office until early afternoon. I'll respond to e-mails, phone calls, BlackBoard postings, smoke signals, and such at that time. Print out those questions (see schedule), pop in those CDs, and let's get going.

May 11, 2004 - Welcome Cyberstudents! You should be receiving a letter in the mail calling your attention to some important information concerning this course. Please into BlackBoard and post a "Howdy" message introducing yourself to your fellow cyberstudents.
