New Announcements:

August 3, 2006 - I have placed your final grades on BlackBoard. Recall that I do not use BlackBoard to calculate your grades, I do that on my own spreadsheet. My eyes are very tired after grading last night and all morning. The grade that really matters is the one on SIS, it should be the same as the one on BlackBoard, but I will be checking the one on SIS multiple times before submitting. If you want to see the complete breakdown please see the printout (with your last name) hanging on my office window.

July 28, 2006 - As announced during our cyberlabs... I'll be heading out of town Sunday morning and won't return until very, very, very early Thursday morning. I will drag myself to campus and complete the grading process (posting everything on BlackBoard). I'm doing everything possible to make sure I will be able to check e-mail and BlackBoard at least three times @ day while I'm away. But here's what you can do to help - take your final exam early! Please don't wait until the last minute. The deadline is midnight Wednesday. If there are any problems e-mail me and I'll do my best to get back to you - but you'll have to be patient.

To those of you that have already taken the final... Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

July 25, 2006 - I'm heading to Scottsville (Virginia) tomorrow as part of a task force to help the small community with a large tree planting project. I'll be back behind a computer in the evening. I'll be on campus for most of Friday but then I'll be heading to Minneapolis and returning very late Wednesday evening. It may take a day, but I'll find Internet access in Minneapolis and respond to y'all via e-mail and BlackBoard discussion Board. PLEASE.... PLEASE.... I say again....  PLEASE do not wait until the last minute to take your final exam!

July 23, 2006 - Two announcements:

  • Deadline for Test #3 is July 24!
  • You will soon be receiving an e-mail directing you to a special website to complete your end of the course evaluation. This is something new for BRCC. The announcement/link is being sent to your VCCS e-mail. If you don't use your VCCS e-mail account be sure to change your VCCS e-mail account so e-mails are forwarded to whatever e-mail address you use regularly.

July 19, 2006 - I'm going to be out of town for the next two days (Thursday and Friday). I will do my best to return e-mails and respond to BlackBoard postings during this time.... but I'm doubtful there will be Internet connections where I'm heading. I will certainly respond to e-mails and BB postings on Friday night.

July 15, 2006 - The link to your extra credit opportunity is active (see home page). Just follow the directions (should be self-explanatory).

July 12, 2006 - Tonight is the deadline for Test #2 and the Population Genetics/Evolution Lab Quiz!   Git 'r done.

July 11, 2006 - Ok. I'm done tweaking the lab activities for Friday/Saturday. Click on the appropriate link on your schedule page and print out all that stuff and begin preparing.

July 10, 2006 - I'm in Staunton today volunteering at a school clean-up for the day. I'll be checking my e-mail and the BlackBoard discussion board throughout the day. I'll be back on campus tomorrow morning to finish preparing for the marathon lab/midterm at the end of the week.

July 7, 2006 - Today is the deadline for the first test and the first quiz. You have to midnight. Get 'r done!

June 30, 2006 - I just checked BlackBoard and there is still 34% of you guys haven't logged onto to BlackBoard to say "hi" on the discussion board or taken the practice quiz. Step it up! I need to make sure you are out there and you realize what is going on. For those of you that have just taken the practice quiz but didn't say "hi" on the discussion board... that's cool. So long as I know you are out there and you are reading the posts and taking the tests & quizzes. It's all good.

June 30, 2006 - Last day of June... say what!  Kiss goodbye to that month. Roll up your sleeves and plan on sacrificing your social life for one more month. If you haven't done so, get on over to BlackBoard and read all of the posting on the discussion board and then log on to say howdy. Then take that practice quiz so we can make sure everything is working on your end. Then, sit down with Dr. Wolfe (the little guy inside the CDs) and get crackin' on answering my assigned questions (i.e. your notes). Keep those questions coming on BlackBoard, they really are helpful for everyone (even me) :-)

June 28, 2006 - Good day cyberstudents. Welcome to cyberbiology. Time to get cracking! First, read the FAQ page, then read the syllabus, then read the schedule, click on those links on the schedule and get a feel for what you will doing. Then head on over to Blackboard and take the practice quiz. Next, introduce yourself on BlackBoard (discussion board). Then, please post those questions you have about the course on the same BlackBoard forum. That way I can answer them and everyone can read the response. Hint, hint, hint... everyone reads every posting for the questions and answers. If you have any issues of a more personal nature (problem with test, etc..) please e-mail directly.

June 27, 2006 - Class starts tomorrow. But here are a couple of announcements:

  • Today I'm finishing up 101 (grading, paperwork, changing links, making up tests and quizzes.....). I will have more to say on 102 later today or early tomorrow morning. Check back again :-)   If you were not with me for the first semester I strongly encourage you to read everything you can on my web site, especially the FAQ page, click around on the schedule page for different dates to get a feel for what is expected of you, the syllabus, etc... I will be updating everything during the next couple of days so know that if you print out any document today, it will probably be updated by tomorrow afternoon.
  • I'm going to make the 102 BlackBoard page active today and probably just make the discussion board and practice quiz active. Please log in and say howdy to your classmates and take the practice quiz just to make sure everything is working properly. Don't panic... the practice quiz is just that... practice. It will not count as a grade. After saying howdy on BlackBoard please feel free to jump in with general questions (keep the more personal ones, i.e. performance concerns, etc... as e-mails to me).
  • Feel free to get started on the Thinkwell lectures and other assignments. I know it seems like a lot when you look through the schedule page but you can do it. Jump in and see how many lectures you can process today. This will help you budget your time so you can stay on track with posted deadlines. I recommend writing these posted deadlines on your personal calendar, personal agenda, and/or mirror in your bathroom.
  • Jump in, the water is fine!
