September 26, 2008 - Several
announcements:
-
So far it's been pretty quiet on
BlackBoard. I have been carrying on pretty extensive e-mail
discussions with a number of students. Sure would be nice if
students posted their questions on BlackBoard so that everyone can
benefit from our exchange. Hint... Hint... Hint.... :-)
-
We just hit the end of our second
unit. Please take the Enzyme quiz and Test #2 as soon as possible.
-
Next, we move into Cell
Biology. After that we conclude the first half of the semester
with Cellular Respiration... in other words: Everything
you always wanted to know about the mitochondria, but were afraid to
ask.
-
Soon, I'll begin posting
announcements about our upcoming CyberSaturday and midterm. If you
want to get a jump on things I encourage you to click on the
appropriate link on the lecture schedule to learn more about what we
will be doing.
-
So that you will have an accurate
representation of where you are in the course, I will average
together your grades before we meet on CyberSaturday and have them
for you to review on October 18.
September 9, 2008 - How are we
doing? Couple of announcements:
-
Our BlackBoard discussion board
is strangely quiet. Are you understanding the assignments, due
dates, and the general flow of the course? Please don't hesitate to
post questions. Really, I mean it. If the question is in your head
it's probably in the heads of your classmates. Go ahead and ask it
and then everyone benefits from the answer.
-
Keep an eye on the due dates on
your schedule. Sometimes students have a tendency to drift
and totally miss a test. Don't let this happen to you.
-
Worried about your performance on
your first test and first three quizzes? Check your syllabus. Note
that I do drop the lowest quiz and test score from your grade. Also,
there will be an opportunity to earn some extra credit (details will
be announced midway through the course).
-
I need to talk (e-mail) with the
following student(s): Cody Thompson
August 25, 2008 - Three
announcements:
-
First - Tomorrow I will be
checking to make sure everyone has said "Howdy" on BlackBoard and
taken the practice quiz. If you're still lurking and haven't done
anything, know that I'm going to have to turn in your name to our
admissions department and they'll administratively withdraw you from
the course.
-
Second - Do you know what you are
suppose to be doing? If you are lost, ask me some questions on our
Discussion Board (on BlackBoard).
-
Third - Speaking of BlackBoard....
I pass along the following from our computer folks at BRCC:
August 20, 2008
- How are we doing? Generally I receive more questions on BlackBoard
during this time of the semester. Are you sure you understand what's
going on? Make sure you read the announcements below (especially the
first one from August 18). There are five of you that haven't logged
onto BlackBoard to say Howdy and take the practice quiz. I really need
to see that you exist otherwise I have to turn in your name to our
admissions department and they will probably move to withdraw you from
the course. Apologies to those of you that may have just recently added
the class.
August 18, 2008
- I pass along the following from the BRCC Computing Department
concerning a brief scheduled outage Tuesday evening:
-
What this means is that sites
hosted at BRCC (www.brcc.edu,www1.brcc.edu, etc) will have periods
of unavailability between 9 and 10 PM on
Tuesday, August 19. Blackboard, student email, and SIS are all
hosted on VCCS servers at Featherstone so they will work
fine.
One note: many of our students get to Bb, email and SIS by clicking
on the "MyBRCC" link on our homepage at
www.brcc.edu. If our web site is down,
they are likely to tell you they can't get to Bb, etc, because
they can't get to the MyBRCC link. True, that link may be
unavailable, but they can always get to
their stuff by going straight to
http://my.vccs.edu . You may want to remind/inform them of
that...
August 18, 2008
- And so it begins... Glad you found my announcement page :-)
Couple of announcements for our first day of class.
-
Read your welcome letter. If you
didn't receive one in the mail you need to do two things: first,
click on the link about 2 cm beneath this line; second, go to SIS or
our admissions department and update your home mailing address.
-
Read the FAQ, study the schedule,
study the syllabus and read the announcements below.
-
Head over to BlackBoard and take
the practice quiz and say "Howdy" to your classmates on our
discussion board. It's important that your go to BlackBoard very
soon and take the practice quiz and say Howdy because it is the only
way I have of "taking attendance." On Friday I have to turn in the
names of non-attending students so they can be administratively
withdrawn. Don't let that be you!
-
Assuming you have purchased our
online textbook subscription.... head on over to Thinkwell and
register.
-
Got questions? I betcha do. Post
those questions on our BlackBoard discussion board so that everyone
can benefit.
August 12, 2008 -
Welcome. You're early. Have a look around.
-
I mailed a welcome letter to
everyone enrolled in the class way back in July (7/22/08). I'm
mailing another round to those students that have recently added the
course. What's that? You moved? Your dog eats your mail? Then here's
link to the letter
Welcome Letter
(Fall 2008).
-
I am certain that you will have
questions.
Please post them on your BlackBoard Discussion group so everyone can
benefit from the answer.
-
I know, I know, I know...
BlackBoard wasn't up today. I'm beginning to wonder if it will
be up tomorrow. Seems BlackBoard had a major hiccup when faculty
from across the state decided to log on today to update their
courses. Oh well... I anticipate everything getting back to
normal tomorrow or Thursday
-
Three web sites? That's correct.
Here they are...
