To disgust is a common word in English.
Examples:
Pink medicine disgusts me.
Nose mucous disgusts many people.
The forms of disgust came down to us through the ages, however the word “gusts me” did not.
“gusts me” is a very common word and concept in Spanish. To translate it literally into English, the word is “is pleasing to me”. Spanish does not have a word for “I like something”. You must say, “something is pleasing to me” or “ something gusts me.”
A simple way to learn it is to follow this example:
If the subject is singular then the forms are these;
Me gusta nos gusta
Te gusta os gusta
Le gusta les gusta
Me gusta este programa. I like this program.
Le gusta hablar mucho. He likes to talk a lot.
Nos gusta estudiar español. We like to study Spanish.
Este programa is singular and is the subject of gusta
Notice that the subject follows or comes after the verb.
If the subject is plural, then the forms are these:
Me gustan nos gustan
Te gustan os gustan
Le gustan les gustan
Me gustan los rubios. I like blonds.
Le gustan los morenos. He likes brunettes.
Nos gustan el básquetbol y el futbol. We like basketball and football.
Notice all the subjects are after the verb and in this set of examples, the subject is plural.
In general it can be said that you will use either the “a” or the “an” ending.
To use the other endings results in intimate conversations
Te gusto= you like me ( I am pleasing to you)
Me gustas= I like you
Nos gustamos= we like each other
Les gusto= they like me (I am pleasing to them)
Now do you see why you do not want to follow the regular conjugation rules for gustar?
For clarification, the pronouns Me, te, le, nos, os, les are indirect object pronouns
The translations are:
