Tener expressions

 

In lesson 7 you begin the study of several verbs that are irregular in the first person. One of these is the verb tener which means to have/possess   something.  It can also translate into English as the ver to be.

 

Tener…. Años=  to have…years

Tengo 50 tal años. = I am 50 something years old.

Cúantos años tiene usted?= How old are you?

Mi hijo tiene 31 años = My son is 31 years old.

 

Some other useful forms:

Tener calor.=to be hot such as tengo calor=I am hot.(the temperature is high in the room.)

Tener frío.=to be cold

 

Tener hambre=to be hungry

Tener sed=to be thirsty

 

Tener que = an infinitive =To have to

tengo que ir= I have to go.

 

Tengo ganas de = I really want to do something..

Tengo ganas de hablar español. I really want to speak Spanish.

Tengo ganas de ir a Costa Rica. I really want to go to Costa Rica.
